Satire!

Now is the first installment of my one part series; Bands Names, Literally. Tonight's subject: Tears for Fears.

Tears for fears? Fears want my tears? Or you'll give me fears for my tears? I don't think so, man. Not only have all my tears been wasted on Buffalo sports, but my fears are all full as well. Thanks recession.

Apparently this "band" name came from some pop-psychologist's therapy called "Primal Therapy." Wiki says you re-live some traumatic experience to help you get over it. Well, I don't think it seems to fit the bands persona. With songs like "Head over Heels" and "Everbody Wants to Rule the World," I'm not sure where they're reliving past experiences. And "Shout"? Don't even get me started- well, that actually makes a little sense.

The big kicker out of all of this is that after meeting the psychologist that coined their band name, the group was disappointed when they met him. Appartently Dr. Arthur Janov had gone "Hollywood." It's your fault Tears for Fears. You're synth-based pop hits turned this little known therapy treatment into a full blown 1980's Scientology. Well done. You created your own monster. Hope those large royalty checks sting a bit. Probably not, but it's still a dumb name.

Love your music, though.

And that concludes this weeks, Band Names: Literally.

more changes...

Another new layout. I'm on pace to flip-flop more than John Kerry. Ooh. Outdated? Yes. Funny? Eh...

Don't be surprised if this happens again, I'm a template whore.

changes

I've changed the color scheme of the blog. Pretty basic color format, but it's simple and that's what I'm going for. I clearly understand simple.

Let me know what you think.

let's get... random

Since my last post, things have happened. Things, I say!

First off, the UCB class I started taking is now over. It's a bummer, but the people I've met are funny as hell and we're trying to get together to write a Spank show at the theatre. Hopefully we get something going, 'cause the next step is seeing what you've written get performed live. Lookin' for the laughs.

Second, I'm addicted to my Blackberry. Had it for 3 months now, and I'm pretty sure my life would be over if I lost it. That may be a bit too dramatic, but then again, may be not. One great bonus from the BB is the discovery of Slacker Radio, which has now become the soundtrack of my life. Their "Indie Hits" channel is dynamite and has already provided Brooke and I some solid tunes for road trips.

Sidenote; if anyone was wondering my thoughts on Buffalo sports right now, it basically equates to: Bills=Fail, Sabres=Win.

Thirdly, relating to the sketch stuff, if anyone's got some crazy stories they'd like to see written up into a properly formatted sketch, let me know. Always looking for ideas, since I only live in NYC and nothing ever happens here.

I believe that's all for now. Ooh, candy corn.

you could say mobile...

Hey kids, time for your monthly update.

A full 2 months into married life now. It's good and we're enjoying the little things that come with marriage, like tax breaks. Definitely helps since we got a new car at the end of July. Went with good old GM and picked up a 2009 Pontiac Vibe. It's solid. Got a lot of room for two people for a hatchback. Plus its got a lot of bells and whistles and slide rulers and spinning tops and jacks and other 1950s kids toys.

Other than the new car, everything else is going as normal. I start a sketch writing class tomorrow afternoon through UCB (Upright Citizens Brigade). Should hopefully be a good time and give me some knowledge on how to construct all my funny ideas into completely inappropriate skits. The more nudity the better I say! Ask Brooke, I say it.

Gonna be back in the Roch/Buffalo area over Labor Day weekend for my cousin Cathy's wedding and fantasy football draft mayhem. If you're around, we'll probably see you since we're friendly like that. It'll be the first roadie with the new car, so we'll be able to plug in the iPods and rock out on 81N and the Thruway. Thinking Brit Pop/Rock since I'm addicted to the new Lily Allen song. I'll admit it, she's British.

Oh, got a Blackberry Tour a month ago as well. I'm fully connected to everything now, so if you want to get a hold of me at any moment you can. Even for lolz.

I wear jewelry now

So, I'm married now.

I figure that sentence deserves it's own paragraph, because it's a pretty heavy thing. It's been an amazing 2 weeks. Both the wedding and honeymoon were a blast, and it definitely doesn't hurt to hear from all your family and friends that you had the best wedding they've been too. We'll call it the wedding of the millienum. We set the bar high folks. :)

Alright, so apart from all that stuff going down, not much else is different. Well, I guess in a sense everything is different since I'm married now and have legal respondibilties to uphold to Brooke, but other than that... I mean my video games are still the same. Thank god for them, they'll never change. Also, I will be purchasing the Ghostbusters game on the PS3 sometime this week. Brooke will clearly be extatic about that.

Some of you may be asking, "Hey chucknut, were are all the photos for this so called wedding?" Well, if your reading this, then you're clearly a member of the internet, so head on over to this site and search for me and you'll see so many photos you'll be sick of them instaneously. Or amazed, who knows.

I think that's all I've got for now. I'll update again in a couple days when something in the news bugs me or I think I'm funny for a second.

Ani rotseh...

Ok, so it's been like 3 weeks. Don't get mad or anything, I'm just in the middle of planning a wedding, while working in NYC and trying to relax now and again. They are legit excuses!

Speaking of the wedding, things are getting crazier now that we are closer than ever to the zero hour. We're back in Buffalo for Memorial Day weekend in order to finalize some of the plans and to partake in our respective bachelor and bachorlette parties. Tom Foolery will be on hand for both of us, however I predict that the Giggle-Factor will be at least twice as high for Brooke than for me. Although, my happenings have a higher predicted point on the To-Drunk-To-Remember quotient. With all the math talk, this is clearly going to be a nerd fest. High probabitity of 80's movie references, as well.

Brooke and I are going to the Braves vs. Mets game tonight here in Queens. It'll be the first time seeing the Braves away from Atlanta, so hopefully the Mets fans are tolerable. Since it's a game in May, it shouldn't be to bad. Brooke worked her magic and got a pair through people she works with.

That's it for now. Work day is winding down and I'm ready to jump this ship. Later interwebs.

BTW, got my hands on all the episodes of one of the best cartoons of all-time.

Massive thunderstorm going on right now in NYC. Man, this better let up by the morning, 'cause I'm too old for this stuff.

Passover has now come and gone. Apologies for only 1 post about the goings on of an unleavened life, but the lack of decent carbs prohibited me from having any other thoughts than seeing bread everywhere. It's ridiculous how much stuff has some sort of grain product in it, but when you can have it for the first time in over a week, it's like winning the bread lottery. Literally. Brooke and I ended passover with a major feast on pasta from Gino's, and then proceeded to melt into the couch as we realized that that was waaaay too much pasta for one sitting.

The past weekend was decent. Did some laundry and chores, hung out, got into to street fights with gangs in Queens. Maybe not the last one, but it can be tough going to the grocery store around the corner. They don't give out cash back on debit purchases. It's a dicey place.

People are declining to come to the wedding. It's uncool. Sure, there were people that we sent invites to that we suspected wouldn't be able to make it, but were getting declines from people we never thought wouldn't come. If some of you don't know, this wedding is gonna rock it out, and it's jewish, so it's got street cred. Lower east side cred, but cred none the less. That's cool, you folks can miss out and then see all the photos afterwards and wish you made it. The photobooth alone with all it's props will take care of that.

Enjoy the links. Google images is solid. Thank you internet.

Tuesday afternoon

So we're currently in the sixth day of Passover. I'm starting to feel a little like Newman from Seinfeld in the episode where he sees Kramer's head as a giant cooked turkey, although I'm seeing people as loaves of Rye and Whole Wheat. My buddy Josh sent me this e-card today. There never was a truer card sent. Also, a solid choice for man to man card giving. To the point and containing some hints of violence. Also see: Achewood.com Cards for other Dudes.

Had a pretty enjoyable weekend. Was an extra day longer thanks to Friday being good. Brooke made lots of delicious kosher food on Sat. and several friends joined us in devouring it. There are still a bunch of leftovers, which will thankfully get me through the next 28 hours or so. Holy crap pasta is gonna taste good tomorrow.

Wedding planning is still in full effect. Finalizing things here and setting up meetings there. Major stuff is pretty much taken care of, including invites, and RSVP cards are returning left and right. Quick note: we spent so much time making sure that our invitations were all neat and proper and such; who knew that everyone could just write all over our RSVP cards. I mean, I dig it, some great notes showing up, but if I knew that was going to happen I would said we should make our RSVP's look like this.

Alright, 3 URL links in one entry, I've hit the quota. Later interweb.

I can't eat what?

Passover started last night, so Jews around the world are going all Atkins for a week. Brooke and I did our own little seder last night, but we'll be doing the 2nd seder tonight with my friend Josh at his place. Should be a good night of Jewish cuisine and ridiculousness. We'll see if anyone gets smacked.

So, for this passover I've decided to give the old going kosher a try. Brooke's excited that I'm doing it with her and my stomach is yelling at me for not giving it "man food" for the next week. Shut up stomach, charoset is tres manly. I'll probably dialogue on this blog about how it's going. Should be fine up until the weekend, wherein matzos becomes the driest thing ever made and all I think about is pounding bologna sandwiches. I'm so white.

To all the Jews out there, Chag Semeach. To all you other people, get your pork outta my face.

back in a ny groove?

3 years, huh. That's a while between blog posts. I guess not much has happened. Except I moved to NYC and I'm getting married in 3 months. Who needs specifics, right?

So this blog may be back in business for a bit, but may see a change or two. I've put 2+2 together and realized that, contrary to many, I have feelings on things and I have the internet. So with logic, or lack there of, lets throw it all on this blogger page and see what sticks.

Stay tuned, net people.
